Call on the Obama Administration to Fulfill Campain Promises on a Nuclear Weapons Free World The National Citizens Coalition is calling on President Obama to take immediate steps toward a nuclear weapons free world. On March 11, 2009, the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World and the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation submitted a petition with more than 70,000 signatures to the Obama Administration, calling on the President "to make a world free of nuclear weapons an urgent priority and to assure U.S. leadership to realize this goal." The petition calls on the President to begin taking concrete steps toward the goal of achieving global nuclear disarmament.

In this article, Graham Allison, Director of the Belfer Center at Harvard University, discusses the threat of terrorist organizations acquiring nuclear know-how,equipment, and material. In light of recent evidence of nuclear transfers from North Korea to Syria, the potential for nuclear terrorism and how to prevent such a threat are timely questions. U.S. officials feel that the only effective way to prevent such transfers is to find an effective deterrence mechanism. Allison suggests that nuclear forensics, tracing nuclear material backward from an explosion site to determine the site that provided the material, is the key to creating a new and effective mechanism for deterring rogue states from providing terrorist organizations or other states with nuclear material. Nuclear Options
In an article on Iran's nuclear program, Hans Blix, head of UN inspections in Iraq in 2003, argues that inspections of Iran's uranium enrichment program are pointless. Blix argues that inspections only provide information on the current state of uranium enrichment, but tell us nothing about Iran's future intentions. Rather than continuing with an approach that has proven to be ineffective, the U.S. should restore diplomatic relations with Iran as an incentive for Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions.
